Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress who performed for over 40 years. London was a torch singer well-known for her smooth, soft voice. She recorded over 30 albums of pop and jazz classics from 1955 to 1969. Her performance of "Cry me a river" the song she released on her debut album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated in 1974 to the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her portrayal in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her acting career. London's 35-year-long acting career began around 1944, when she appeared in movies. They included roles as the female lead in numerous westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording deal with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional music career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. However she was part of the emergency series in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) She was joined by her husband Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
