Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency the website which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has won prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in pop culture narratives was the result of her research. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular culture. In addition she aims to create awareness of online harassment directed at women and marginalized groups of people. A graduate in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. As a university student Sarkeesian was concerned about issues related to gender and rights for women from a young age. An ambitious woman who wanted to start a web-series examining the representation of gender in video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. However the attack could not deter her instead it made her more determined as a feminist media critic. Many awards have been presented to her as a way of acknowledging all the contributions that she made. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. The non-profit educational organization studies women's roles in pop culture narratives.
